Summary

This study was a joint project of the Urban Observatory Program in ten major United States cities: Atlanta, Albuquerque, Baltimore, Boston, Denver, Kansas City, Kansas, Kansas City, Missouri, Milwaukee, Nashville, and San Diego. Respondents were drawn from ten independent samples in each participating city. The focus of the survey was on citizens' perceptions of the problems of urban life. Citizen attitudes toward local government services and opinions about local problems in the areas of schooling, housing, public transportation, drugs, law and order, and taxes were obtained for all ten cities. Information on the socio-economic status of the respondents, and on household composition are also included. Each city may be analyzed separately or may be treated as an integral part of the comparative study. The study contains information in the form of 288 variables for 4,266 respondents.
