Detroit Area Study, 1967: Citizens in Search of Justice

(Principal Investigator, Mayhew, Leon, and A. J. Reiss, Jr.)

Summary
The focus of this study was on respondents' perceptions of what could be done if an unfair law or decision were passed. A major section of this study concentrated on actual events and assessed the respondents' reactions to problems involving neighbors, rent, expensive purchases, discrimination, and public organizations. For each area designated as having caused some problem, the respondents were then asked to indicate how the conflict was resolved. There were also questions asked concerning the respondents' perception and interaction with lawyers. Demographic data were also included for the 780 respondents in the sample.
