Summary

Summary Tape File (STF) 5 contains over 100,000 cells of population and housing data estimated from the census sample and provides highly detailed tabulations for states, standard metropolitan statistical areas (SMSA's), counties, and places and selected minor civil divisions (MCD's) of 50,000 or more inhabitants. Most tabulations are repeated for race groups and persons of Spanish origin. In addition, the file contains 100-percent counts and unweighted sample counts of persons and housing units. Selected aggregates are also provided. This file set includes data also shown in the PC80-1-D and HC80-2 printed reports. STF 5A provides data summaries for each state (and D.C.) and the three state components: rural, inside SMSA's, and inside central cities of SMSA's. STF 5A also has data summaries for SMSA's, counties of 50,000 or more inhabitants, places of 50,000 or more inhabitants and the urban part of SMSA central cities, and minor civil divisions (in 11 selected states only) of 50,000 or more inhabitants. Because of its large size, STF5 is comprised of two sets of tabulations: population and housing. Each logical record in either set of tables is divided into a number of 2, 046-character segments. Each record of STF5 population tabulations has 662 segments and each record of STF5 housing tabulations has 270 segments.
